Pain is standard for a few days after surgery. The pain may stay up to 10 days; however, if you experience consistent and severe pain that does not subside even for a long duration, then consider getting yourself checked by the doctor as this might be an indication of a complication.
Normal pain can recede with the intake of acetaminophen. Do not indulge in drugs that contain ibuprofen or aspirin. The pain may persist for at least two weeks. Remember to take any drugs under the prescription from an ENT doctor in Palavakkam and not merely self-medicate yourself and buy these drugs over the counter.
Pain at night would be more in comparison to the entire day. You may need additional medication during this time.
Another common symptom occurring is ear pain during eating. You may also experience neck stiffness and sore throat. Take pain medicines like Tylenol, Codeine to get some relief.
A low-grade fever can be observed after the surgery. If your temperature hikes uncontrollably, immediately take the advice of an expert and do as required. Fever can be an indication of infection or intake of insufficient fluids.
Bleeding is generally not a common symptom after surgery. Suppose you notice any sign of bleeding, report to your doctor. Minor spots of blood may not be an issue to worry about and may be seen on the surface of the tongue. This may continue for about two weeks after the surgery.
After the surgery, lousy breath is common. This is due to the swelling that is yet to subside in the back of the throat. Snoring and noisy breathing can also be an issue since most people breathe through their mouths during this time. Your condition will improve after a period of two to three weeks. If the complications are prolonged, visit a good ENT doctor in Chennai at the earliest to avoid further discomfort.
Immediate outcomes after the surgery may involve giddiness and the feeling of wanting to vomit. This will eventually go away, and you will feel better the following day. However, if you experience the same trouble consistently, it is mandatory to seek medical care.
Only take medications as prescribed by your doctor. Try to avoid any drugs bought over the counter.
Take plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. Ice pops and water from time to time are a good choice during your time of recovery.
Take bland and soft foods instead of crunchy, spicy food since simple foods are easier to swallow. They do not offer any path of hindrance during eating after the surgery has been completed. Ice cream can be taken if you can tolerate it.
Adequate rest after the surgery is necessary for up to two weeks at least. Doctors recommend not to involve yourself in any strenuous activities and resort to only bed rest for a couple of weeks. In case you have to go to work, consult the best ENT doctor in Chennai to know if it is safe for you or not.
Always stay a step ahead when it comes to your health after the tonsillectomy surgery. If you notice any signs and symptoms that seem abnormal to you, report to your doctor about its outcome.
